The Bemelmans Ocean View Suite

  • 850

Welcome to the Bemelmans Suite

The legend of Ludwig Bemelmans—the author and illustrator of the Madeline books, among other well known works—is inherently linked to grand hotels, gourmand experiences, and a taste of the good life. It is only fitting that his works and presence be on display in a hotel like Ocean House.

In a first-of-its-kind accommodation, the Bemelmans Suite is approximately 850-square-feet, with stunning views of the Atlantic, as well as two full bathrooms, sofa bed, large living room, and a seasonal fireplace.

The suite features more than 12 pieces of work from Bemelmans, eight of which are original. The suite’s decor is pure, sophisticated fun, with a light and slightly animated atmosphere that enables guests to feel immersed in the artwork.

Joining Bemelmans’ work is art by Tug Rice, a millennial and latter-day Bemelmans in his own right, whose original work and custom wallpaper and decorative pillows showcase scenes of guests enjoying Ocean House and bring the characters of Watch Hill to life.

Light blue accents, punctuated by rays of yellow, complete the space, while furnishings—from Dorothy Draper-inspired pieces to classic furniture that harkens back to the hotel’s mid-nineteenth century origins—reflects a maritime sensibility that makes the Bemelmans Suite a joy to call your home away from home at Ocean House.
