Bike Tours

The Ocean House is located in the midst of one of the United States’ most interesting and scenic portions of coastline, and to explore this area by bicycle is to be automatically drawn in to its beauty and history.

Distances between points-of-interest are short and travel routes range from easily ridden flat coastal plane to rolling New England hills, allowing varied route choices for the enjoyment of everyone from “casual” riders to “hammerhead” road cyclists. Our seascapes, history, architecture and geological features are unique and absorbing in detail—best seen by bicycle.

Sample Bike Tours

Coastal History
The Great New England Hurricane of 1938 and other major storms; first settlers and natives; Watch Hill’s history; lifesaving stations, coastal shipping and shipwrecks; commercial and recreational fisheries; past and present farms and agriculture; geology of the glaciers. (1 to 4 hours; 10 to 25 miles; beginner rider levels)

Fitness Rides
Less talk, and more action! There are a wide range of terrain and speed options for riders who have “the need for speed” and where scenery is mostly viewed at 16 to 20 mph on the “flats.” There are also hilltop and streamside picnic spots, restaurants, coffeeshops and wineries to explore. (35 to 50 miles, more experienced rider levels)

Stonington Village and Watch Hill
Explore two of New England’s “must see” places. The terms scenic and historical do not even begin to describe these unique locales. Civilized shopping and dining, lighthouses, museums, battle sites, fishing fleets, marinas, harbors, islands, strolls through Colonial and early 19th century streetscapes. (4–8 hours; beginner rider level)
